ABOUT ME

Rabiu Taiwo Damilola (popularly known as Taiykes, born 29 June 1991) is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, great vocalist, lyricist, an Artist (Creative Arts) and an accountant in the making. He adopted the stage name Taiykes, a combination of his name Taiwo and his twins sister's first name Kehinde. The "S" stands for Style Taiykes is currently best known locally and internationally for his 2012 summer hit "KURUKERE", an uptempo dance fusion of Afrobeat and electronic dance music that gained the interest and attention of the listeners also "DURO" R&B tunes.

 

Childhood/Educational Portfolio

Taiykes was born in Agege area, Lagos State, Nigeria as a twin to the house of Alh. T.K Rabiu (Father) and Mrs. Iyabo Modinat Rabiu (Mother) Maiden name (Salau) who both hail from Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State. He obtained his SSCE from IPK Grammar School, Ikorodu, Lagos State in the year 2007. He later proceeded to acquire more knowledge at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic where he studied Accounting and graduated with a National Diploma (Upper Credit), he is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified accountant (ACCA), while in school Taiykes was best known as a talented being who had not only made a headway in music but also in his academics and most people that came across him had much to say...

 

Musical Beginning

Taiykes discovered himself as early as 7year old while in primary school where he do myme music to entertain his friends and seniors, amongst songs he do myme was the then Maccosa music, Joe, R'kelly amongst others. 

In 2009 he dropped his first two duo-track single titled "16 Swaggs" on which he featured Daboy | Blackris and "Make-It-Reign" this track portray more of hip hop flavours and tunes with this he was officially introduced into the populace. The bangin still goes on. In 2012 he decided to drop another single that made his stand clearer and glarring to the people track title "DURO" Genre: RnB. In 2013 he decided to take it down to the club with a club banger sound titled "KURUKERE" which brought down the roofs of prominent clubs in Lagos, and some parts of Abeokuta from 2012 till 2014.

Taiykes had worked with great producers like HSound, 1st World, Da Zealous etc.

 

Music career

His songs are based on his life, Fun, often hilarious but with a deeper meaning which documents the struggle of a young Nigerian trying to achieve his dreams. He performs in Yoruba, English and Pidgin English.

 

Live performances

Taiykes is a regular performer for the HosteL Boiz Fiesta Jamz. He has also performed at various shows like the Great Achievers Club Party at SOAS Garden Ogun State, School Concerts, DJ Haliya Val Jamz, Afrikan Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos to mention a few all well documented on Youtube and other web pages for your happy viewing.
